What is the Alumni W-Club?

And Who Qualifies for Membership in the W-Club?

The W-Club was founded in 1928 by legendary Western Kentucky University Coach E.A. Diddle as a gathering point for Hilltopper athletes. It continues in that role today as the Alumni W-Club, the official athletic letter winners’ organization at WKU.

Your Alumni W-Club dues support various activities of the organization including: all-athletic letter winner awards for current student-athletes, the WKU Athletic Hall of Fame, the annual Homecoming Brunch, hospitality at all home football and basketball games, the John O. Oldham male and female Athlete of the Year awards, discounted tickets for Hilltopper and Lady Topper regular season home events, and a periodic newsletter.

Membership in the Alumni W-Club is open to WKU alumni who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Letter winner in a WKU varsity sport
  • Letter winner in affiliated athletic organizations (i.e., cheerleaders, dance team members, Big Red)
  • Honorary members (individuals who have been offered “honorary” status in the W-Club in recognition of their unique contributions to Hilltopper Athletics and the Alumni W-Club)
  • Former Topper athletes who did not letter, but who participated on a WKU varsity team and appeared on a roster, in the team statistics and/or in the official team photo
  • Spouses of deceased individuals who have been members of the Alumni W-Club.

Active members of the Alumni W-Club are those who meet the above criteria and who are current, dues-paying members of the organization (either on an annual, or a lifetime basis).

If you meet any of these criteria, please proceed below and become actively involved with your fellow Hilltoppers in support of your Alumni W-Club!

WKU Athletic Hall of Fame

The Alumni W-Club created the WKU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 to recognize the athletes and coaches who have played key roles in the long and illustrious history of Hilltopper Athletics.  There were 10 former athletes and coaches in the inaugural class and, through 2022, a total of 165 persons have been honored with membership in the Hall.  In 2018 the W-Club Board of Directors voted to expand the scope of the Hall of Fame to include great teams in the school’s history and elected 16 Hilltopper teams as the inaugural class.  Those teams are being individually recognized on campus before additional teams are considered.

Anyone may nominate a former Hilltopper sports letterwinner or coach for consideration for induction into the WKU Athletic Hall of Fame.  Click here to download a nomination form or contact W-Club Executive Director Paul Just (paul.just@wku.edu / 270-792-4247).
